EMMECOSTA DELIVER HYPNOTIC AMBIENT-POP SINGLE ‘EFFORT’ OUT 27TH JANUARY 2023
Atmospheric dream pop three-piece Emmecosta are returning with their new single fresh off the back of previous releases ‘White River’ and ‘UmaybeU’ with mesmerising track ‘Effort’, releasing on 27th January 2023 with boutique label Icons Creating Evil Art. Their debut album ‘Overnight’ is due to be released on 14th April 2023.
Hailing from the small Italian town of Positano, the post-club outfit has been based in Sweden for the past seven years. Now self-proclaimed Swedish nationals, two thirds of the trio have followed their Italian roots back to Milan as the group discovered a new found need to portray and develop their Swedish/Italian link through their forthcoming work. Now the trio is preparing for the long awaited release of their debut album, 'Overnight', with ‘Effort’ being their third release from the album.
Deviating from their usual tropical post-club sounds, which received praise from the likes of Complex, Noisey, Clash and Stereogum, ‘Effort’ highlights a more melancholic, delicate facet to the diverse three-piece. The track starts off as an acoustic foray, eventually morphing into a track laden with synth samples and experimental vocal elements.
Reminiscent of Bon Iver, the softly harmonised vocals (“You found / You found my love”) pieced over ambient, repetitive beats evokes a pensive, woeful feeling. The track, along with the album as a whole, is a ruminative foray into the blissed out state of walking home after a night out accompanied by only the sunlight and your thoughts.
The accompanying video feeds into the stark nature of the track, featuring hand-held video clips of a lonesome plastic bag being blown across an empty, desolate cityscape. As the ambient beats kick in, trippy animations of sea animals are shown swimming across the city – the video’s closing scene showing the plastic bag ultimately being hit by a speeding car, disappearing off screen.
‘Effort’, out 27th January 2023, comes ahead of their debut album ‘Overnight’ which has a release date slated for 14th April 2023.
