ean Keel & Bill the Pony launch Second Breakfast with the darkly mischievous Bassinet New single released Oct.. 9th via Icons Creating Evil Art
Bill the Pony started as the joint effort of Sean Keel, his son Lukas, and their good buddy Michael Bull. Luke and Mike wrote the music, Sean wrote the words. Mike once observed “Life is too short to spend even a minute of it listening to country music”, and later “There is really no place for words in music”. None the less they made and released 3 jazz/folk (we don’t say country) records together. Next up is Second Breakfast, the first without Mike, and the first on the wide wings of Icons Creating Evil Art, the musical home of Sean’s last three solo records.
Bassinet, the first single, started out as some raunchy lyrics by Matt Melton and Chris Robeson, at the 2024 Conejos River Songwriter Retreat (hosted by Sean and his wife, Michelle).
Sean got interested and filled a couple pages. Luke came to the 2025 Retreat with a cool riff, and by sundown they had a song. Nora Predey, who might as well be a Keel, added a base line and a ton of cool. Gabe Rhodes added all kinds of instruments and attitude.
Want to know what the song is about? Listen. And force anyone you have power over to do the same. Maybe read a little Bible beforehand — the part where the Israelites are picking up bread in the desert.
Bassinet is released October 9, 2026, via Icons Creating Evil Art, introducing the forthcoming album Second Breakfast.
