Swedish bubblegum emo-pop band Tribe Friday release new single ‘Me and All My Friends’ on 14th April 2023 via Icons Creating Evil Art. In May, the band will embark on a US and German tour.
Marrying the rugged indie rock dancehall sounds of early 2K with gen Z post-pandemic party vibe bliss, Tribe Friday is a band of guitar slinging emo kids from the woods of Sweden. Their repertoire consists of upbeat songs that speak to self-deprecation, identity, confusion, love, death and are anchored by sarcasm, wit and charm.
Previously Featured on Earmilk, Alternative Press, American Songwriter, Atwood Magazine and more, the group released their debut LP, bubblegum emo, in June 2022 to critical acclaim as they infectiously introduced the world to the Swedish invasion with charting hit "shut me up" (over 1.2M streams to date). They've had several singles on rotation on Swedish National Radio P3, German Radio (Radio Eins, Flux FM, Star FM, etc.) and Radio X continues to support each release from the band. Legendary Jack Saunders loved the band and hyped the single Swimsuit on his Future Artists show on BBC Radio 1 , and his colleague Nels Hylton did the same on his show Future Alternative a couple days before.
Inspired by artists like the Strokes and My Chemical Romance, Tribe Friday has created their bubblegum, emo rock sound. In their upcoming album, they were able to apply their improved songwriting skills and producing to reflect on their stories about growing up, as Sweden greatly impacted their music style. Their indie rock sound will have you jamming out to some of the saddest, but honest lyrics about growing up. ‘Me and All my Friends’ is a bold and dynamic song that transports us to the Swedish bubblegum emo realm that Tribe Friday is known for.
Noah Deutschmann, lead singer of the band, explains their inspiration and creative process for the single, “A song about growing up in a gang of misfits bound together by lack of purpose and abundance of mental problems. Lyrically, it’s at times the most emo thing we’ve ever done. Musically, it’s the most comical. Middle section is complete with kazoos, mouth horns, and plastic bottle-shaker (+ Noah’s mom on improv trombone!)”
The band merges energetic, whimsical hooks with dark lyricism. Deutschmann says these lyrics from the new song are some of his favourites: me and all my friends are always shopping for a place to go / me and all my friends are always slicing down as deep as it goes / and if it turns out it’s a mil or three to much / then that’s fine, ‘cause at least the doctor’s free here / (fuck you America)
Tribe Friday’s new song ‘Me and All My Friends’ is out on 14th April 2023. The band anticipates their next album ‘Hemma’ to be released in the Fall of 2023. You can catch Tribe Friday on tour this spring in the US and Germany.
