Åskväder enter a bold new era on third album Wax. Swedish rock outfit release their most explosive album to date on October 2nd via Icons Creating Evil Art
Following a string of acclaimed singles and the arrival of a revitalised line-up, Swedish rock outfit Åskväder are ready to unveil Wax, their third full-length album, released October 2nd via Icons Creating Evil Art.
Marking the beginning of a new chapter with Saga Flygare Täll joining as lead vocalist and guitarist, Wax captures a band at full strength. Across eleven tracks, Åskväder sharpen every element that has made them one of Sweden's most exciting modern rock acts—blues-soaked riffs, infectious melodies, raw Scandinavian energy and a live intensity that refuses to let up.
Built over months of writing, rehearsing and recording, Wax is both a reinvention and a reaffirmation. While embracing a heavier, more dynamic sound, the album never loses sight of the band's gift for memorable hooks and timeless rock songwriting.
The journey began with Farewell, released in May, introducing fans to Åskväder's new era with a powerful statement of intent. It is followed by the riff-driven Salt, the soaring Aim High, and the anthemic On The Fence, each revealing another side of an album that confidently moves between hard-hitting rockers, melodic standouts and emotional climaxes.
"Wax is the album we've always wanted to make," the band says. "Every song has its own personality, but together they tell the story of where Åskväder is today. We've pushed ourselves harder than ever, and having Saga join the band brought a completely new energy to both the songwriting and the recordings."
One of those moments arrived almost immediately.
"Salt was the very first song Saga sang with us during her audition," the band recalls. "It clicked instantly—we knew right then that she was the perfect fit."
That chemistry became the foundation for the entire record.
From the punk-inspired urgency of Frontier to the emotional weight of the title track, Wax constantly balances melody and muscle. On The Fence found new life once Saga's vocals were added, while guest guitarist Linus Björklund contributes a standout solo. Under Your Skin very nearly disappeared altogether after the band ran out of studio time and Saga was struck down with a severe cold during the final vocal sessions.
"We were close to scrapping it," they admit. "Then our mixing and mastering engineer Jamie heard the demo and basically told us, 'Finish the song—or else.' We're very glad we listened."
The album closes with Wax, a soaring power ballad featuring an unforgettable outro solo from guest guitarist Kalle Lilja, bringing the record to a triumphant conclusion.
Since forming on Sweden's west coast, Åskväder have steadily built a reputation through explosive live performances and a sound rooted in the Scandinavian rock explosion of the 1990s. Drawing inspiration from bands like The Hellacopters, Turbonegro and Thundermother while forging a distinct identity of their own, they combine blues-infused riff rock, punk urgency and anthemic songwriting into a high-voltage live experience.
Following their debut EP Quick Fixes (2018), the self-titled debut album (2020), Fenix (2022) and the Electric Tide EP (2023), extensive touring across Scandinavia, Germany and Spain established Åskväder as one of Sweden's most exciting contemporary rock bands. With Wax, that reputation reaches another level.
Today, Åskväder consists of Lucas Monryd (bass), Tim Ferm (drums), Saga Flygare Täll (lead vocals/guitar) and Martin Gut (lead guitar).
