It may be hard to imagine for a generation brought up with Tinder and Hinge, but there was a time when getting dates was manual labour. And in this ruthless, ancient battlefield of seduction, some dinosaurs needed more help than others. In those days Neil Strauss’ book “The Game” became an international bestseller. It was basically the average frustrated chump’s step-by-step instruction manual on how to pick up girls. There was a similar read for women too, called “Catch Him and Keep Him”.

In many ways the world’s changed quite radically since then, but I’ve always thought it would be a fun idea to write a song about a phenomenon that made such an impact. While so many cherished these teachings and took them to their hearts, critics regarded them as somewhat ominous and manipulative. But for those who were suddenly successful in the art of seduction for the first time in their lives, the feeling was overwhelming. I suppose the truth is that, like with so many other things, there was both a bright and a dark side to this powerful force.

The song “Pickup Artist” is an upbeat, happy party rocker with a real sing-along chorus. But the whole phenomenon is controversial. That’s why I think it fits well into this theme of “positive nihilism” that runs like a thread throughout the whole album. The new self titled album is released on March 21 2025 and is rooted in their shared love for such a wide range of music – everything from grunge, punk rock and classic rock to 80’s synthwave, ambient pop, post-punk – a package that will not be easy to compartmentalize, which is exactly what they love about it.

Under their new moniker, Luponero continues to push boundaries with their unapologetic, rebellious sound. Their music seamlessly blends classic rock influences with modern punk sensibilities, creating a unique soundscape that resonates deeply with fans across generations.
